"Short Summer Courses in Costa Rica
2008"

EARTH University from Costa Rica, in partnership
with a group of universities in the United States, will offer a
series of summer courses under the general topic of "Management
of Sustainability and Natural Resources in the Humid Tropics"
during the summer of 2008.
The participating universities are the University
of Georgia, California State Polytechnic University, Michigan State
University, North Carolina State University, the University of Florida, University of Missouri and Purdue University. The goal of this initiative is to offer
undergraduate students the opportunity to gain practical experience
in issues that relate to sustainability and biodiversity in the
rich multicultural environment of EARTH University, an international
institution dedicated to educating young leaders from all over the
world on topics that combine entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture.
The summer course series will start during the
last week of June and run until the end of the week of August 4th.
During that time professors from several of the member institutions
will offer the following courses:
Each of these courses lasts from two to three
weeks and all have a strong hands-on component that will insure
direct experience with the challenges and realities of rural
communities, agricultural production and natural resource management
in the humid tropics of Costa Rica.
Through visits and direct interaction with
producers and rural inhabitants students will broaden their
global perspective and get a chance to learn about Latin American
culture, as well as enjoy the beauty of one of the countries
most committed to the protection of its natural wealth.
