Special Projects
"An experience you wont forget"
EARTH, through the International Academic Program, promotes relationships with other universities around the world. The purpose of these relationships is to promote student and faculty exchange, collaboration on research projects, and participation in professional training courses.
EARTH formalizes these relationships by signing agreements or statements of understanding. EARTH has signed agreements with universities from Latin America, United States, Europe, and Africa as well as with institutions dedicated to promoting sustainability in the world.
Recently, EARTH has signed agreements with the Norwegian University of Science and Biology (Noragric), the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, the Universidad del Tolima in Colombia, and universities of BICU and URACCAN in the Caribbean region of Nicaragua.
Occasionally the agreements took place within a specific framework of cooperation. This is the case with special collaborative projects with universities in Nicaragua, Belize and Africa.
The project with the Caribbean universities of Nicaragua is financed by the Sweedish Agency of International Development (ASDI) and involves the University of the Autonomous Region of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast (URACCAN) and Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University (BICU). This project seeks to strengthen the educational systems of the participating universities and prepare faculty and staff to improve the quality of life in rural areas of the aforementioned universities.
The University of Belize participates in the second project which is financed by the OAK Foundation. The main goal of this project is to renovate the academic curriculum of the Agricultural Program at this institution.
EARTH is also involved in a similar project with universities in Southern Africa. In 2007, faculty from the University of Malawi, Uganda and South Africa visited EARTH to familiarize themselves with EARTH’s academic program and consider the possibility of curricular change that will help form agents of change in the future.
